Eye-opener from being sick — JCTV

The last four days I’ve been knocked out from a sinus infection, too out of it to read so I turned to the boob tube for company/entertainment. And what I found out is that regular TV (major networks) doesn’t have much to offer.

I found myself watching NGEO (National Geographic), PBS, Animal Planet…then I stumbled on KPJR, which televises JCTV — a hip, cutting-edge station that shows Christian rock music videos. It’s focus or target audience is teens, 20-somethings, and, well up to 40-somethings, because I became a quick fan. I discovered some excellent musicians, who project a positive image.

The videos on JCTV feature top-notch, short-film features such as Trip Lee and Jai’s hip-hop, “The Invasion” and NewWorldSon’s “Working Man” and high-quality videos from Third Day’s “Children of God” along with concert videos.

In the next couple of posts, I’ll highlight some of the videos that I enjoyed. Below is NewWorldSon.

New music video from Everfound

http://youtu.be/K76yo79qP5I

New music video of “Paradise” from Everfound — the band of Russian brothers from Arvada, Colorado. If you have been following this band, you can hear the band’s evolution from raw talent to more polished musicians and singers. I like this song, it’s more alternative rock than pop.

They look cold. I’ll have to find out where it was filmed and how long they were out there in the snow.

Newsboys get mtvU votes

You voted and the Newsboys are winners. The Christian rock band earned the right to be in heavy rotation on mtvU’s “The Freshman,” when the band’s video “Miracles” beat out Dominic Balli. Funny I just heard Balli for the first time yesterday.

You can catch Newsboys in Colorado Springs on March 1 at Rocky Mountain Calvary Church. Joining the Newsboys are The City Harmonic, Anthem Lights, Abandon, Bob Lenz and Daniel Bashta.

Dominic Ballie & P.O.D.‘s Sonny Sandoval

Came across Dominic Balli this weekend. Reggae meets Calie Rock — surfer, skater music with a rasta flair. This video features P.O.D.‘s Sonny Sandoval.

This song “American Dream,” was written after Ballie found success and bought a house. He said he became wrapped up in living the American dream — striving for the big house, more stuff to fill the house, etc. and realized that that is not what life is about. Enjoy

Anti-abortion ads to run during Super Bowl

Activist Terry Randall, a long-time Republican, is running for president as a Democrat so he can run anti-abortion ads during the Super Bowl on Feb. 5.

The ads are graphic and according to the FCC Telecommunications Act networks must air the campaign ads and cannot alter the content. Grand Junction is on the slate for one of 13 markets in which the ads will be aired.

Randall got the idea after a blogger — Sophia Brugato — created #10forTebow on Twitter to urge readers to donate $10 to pro-life efforts for every touchdown Tim Tebow scored. The blogger, who if I read this correct from a CNN report, got pregnant as a senior in high school, elected not to have an abortion and chose motherhood. The blogger has since received death threats and hate mail.

What are your thoughts on this on the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade?

Meeting for coffee or church, which is better for you?

Is attending religious services better for your health than meeting friends for coffee?
If you attend religious services regularly you are less likely to be depressed than nonattendees, according to a study in the Journal of Religion and Health. Regular attendees also have a more optimistic outlook on life.

But the study only surveyed women 50 and older. I think that’s odd. But some of the findings are interesting and I think they transfer to gender and age. It makes sense that if you attend a spiritual gathering (be it in a church, a yoga studio, a synagogue, etc.) you are making social connections, which also increases optimism and health.

What do you think? Is it any different than regularly meeting a bunch of friends for coffee?

Did “Tebow” commericial bother you?

This commercial by Focus on the Family first aired during the Broncos game against the Patriots in an AFC divisional game Saturday. Here’s the story behind it.

Focus president and CEO Jim Daly said the ad was in response to millions of people searching the Internet for John 3:16 after Tim Tebow and the Broncos beat the Steelers in overtime during the playoffs. He said it took 2.5 days to make and the children in the ad are children of FOF employees.

Did the ad bother you? Not me after seeing ads for Mormons in recent months. What is your take?
