Red: Dove is as good as a Grammy

Red won a Dove Award for Rock Album of the Year, and earlier this year the band went to the Grammy Awards as it was nominated for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album. But the band said the Doves are just as meaningful as the Grammys.

Doesn’t matter Dove or Grammy we’re just as excited to win a Dove. It’s just the Grammys are more recognized,” the band said. “We were in a category (for the Doves) with some heavy hitters. We were like, ‘Wow, the GMA got it right with all these rockers.’ As Christian rockers we are trying to push ourselves on the industry. The Dove Awards have always been known for contemporary rock, so for us to perform live on the show tonight is a huge step for Christian rock.”

The band talked about the Grammy experience. “We were at the after party hanging with Leeland and John Mayer comes by and says ‘What are you guys here for?’ ” And in a sheepish tone the guys say “Christian music categoy,” but Mayer replied, “Hey you guys are here.”

It was a great feeling.”

Red’s next project will feature a cover of a Duran Duran song, but they didn’t reveal which tune they will do.
